While all three Wilburn sisters enjoy carriage driving, it is Joanna's forte!
Joanna drives whenever she gets the opportunity, but she is more eager to teach! Getting people involved in driving is her passion and she has been instrumental in getting many juniors driving and showing. Joanna strives to build a strong relationship between drivers and their equines, while also putting safety first.
Joanna has shown in Welsh Pony Shows and Open Driving Shows with singles and pairs for over 30 years. She has competed in Combined Driving Events as a Driver in Single Preliminary and Navigated for Single, Pair, and Four in Hand from Training to Advanced. Most recently, Joanna has begun navigating for Para/Drivers!
Joanna has been the clinician for the Spring National Drive since its inception in 2010 and is also one of the rotating clinicians for the the Fall National Drive. The National Drive is a Recreational Driving convention with lessons, talks, vendors, and various carriage related activities (weighing horse/carriage, horse shoeing, carriage maintenance, handling emergencies, etc). Originally held in Lexington, KY, it is now held in Edinburgh, IN at the Hoosier Horse Park. This event has become one of Joanna's personal favorite driving events, and she recommends it to all drivers of all skill levels. The National Drive can be found on FB under The National Drive or http://www.nationaldrive.net.
Joanna is no stranger to the road and very much enjoys traveling to give clinics. She would love the opportunity to work with with you or your club. Her clinics would allow you to widen your driving knowledge and build a stronger line of communication between you and your equine. Joanna also has a wonderful speaker and headset system, which allows both drivers and audience members to hear the lesson and get the most they can out of what she is saying.
Joanna has shown Madyn Starman, affectionately known as Spanky, for Connie Moore for the past three years at Welsh Shows winning National Champion or Reserve National Champion in the Driving Divisions and National Champion in Halter all three years.
Joanna occasionally takes ponies in for training that have been started but need further education. She no longer accepts totally untrained animals due to a lack of farm staff to assist.
